How do returns for exchanges or store credit work with TryNow?
TryNow is fully compatible with exchanges and store credit through your returns platform — no manual action needed on your end.
TryNow captures payment for the original item to ensure that shoppers are not left with a free replacement.
Note: You must be using a compatible RMS platform and have your returns integration properly set up. See instructions here.
Here’s how it works behind the scenes:
What Happens During a Return for an Exchange
- Your returns platform creates a $0 replacement order for the exchanged item.
- TryNow receives data from your returns platform letting us know that an item was exchanged, not returned for refund.
- This signals for TryNow to capture payment for the original item. This ensures that the shopper is paying for the item that they are ultimately receiving (the new exchange item).
What Happens During a Return for Store Credit
- Your returns platform will auto-generate a gift card for the refund total, as they would for a buy now order.
- TryNow receives data from your returns platform letting us know that an item was returned for store credit, not returned for refund.
- This signals for TryNow to capture payment for the original item. This ensures that the shopper is paying for the gift card that they are ultimately receiving.
What You Need to Know
- You don’t need to do anything manually. TryNow handles this process automatically based on your return provider’s data.
- If your returns platform doesn’t send clear exchange signals, we’ll treat the item as kept, not returned.
- Exchanged or store credit items are still considered successful TryNow orders in your success rate metrics, since revenue was captured for on those orders.
