Trial Deposit Fees
Trial deposits and fees are upfront charges that help confirm a customer’s card is active, reducing the likelihood of canceled orders. Each type will function differently and will be more. Here’s a breakdown of how each type functions.
Trial Deposits
Trial deposits apply a flat fee or a percentage of the total order at checkout. This small charge confirms the customer’s payment method.
For example, in the following image you will see a flat deposit of $1.
Trial Fees
Trial fees allow shipping and taxes to be collected upfront and can optionally add an extra charge for the trial. This is done by adding an item to the cart that is not part of the TryNow selling plan. This item, created in Shopify, has a price set to reflect the desired fee.
For example, in the following image you will see a $0 fee product added to the cart.
Configuring
These settings can be configured in Merchant Portal. Navigate to Controls > Payment Capture
.
The Configure option will walk you through the steps required to configure either a fee or a deposit.
